Former Springbok trials wing Ron Zeller who passed away recently played 24 games for Natal between 1948 and 1950

Ron was born on 15 August 1928 and educated at Kearsney College were he captained the First XV in 1946. The son of former Springbok wing Bill Zeller who had represented South Africa in the 1921 test series against the All Blacks he joined Berea Rovers after leaving school. An explosive wing blessed with enormous pace he was considered very unlucky on not being selected for the Springboks on two occasions suffering a badly torn hamstring at trials, which hampered him for much of his illustrious career.
